内容記述 | In this article, I identify and describe three major problems that English as a Foreign Language students encounter when reading college-level social science texts, namely background knowledge, linguistic features and graphics. I provide explanations of how each of these difficulties affect the reading comprehension of second-language readers, and offer suggestions for the design of materials and the implementation of reading strategies to counter a specific problem. Various examples of effective class activities, for example, cooperative learning group tasks and games, and teaching materials, such as reading study guides and graphic organizers, are provided. These activities and materials can be modified for and applied to different second language learning situations and college courses. | |||||
