I provide explanations of how each of these difficulties affect the reading comprehension of second-language readers, and offer suggestions for the design of materials and the implementation of reading strategies to counter a specific problem. Various examples of effective class activities, for example, cooperative learning group tasks and games, and teaching materials, such as reading study guides and graphic organizers, are provided.
