| 内容記述 | This paper explores cultural encounters by analyzing interpretations of the "New Woman" in Japan in relation to the development of feminist thinking in the early 1910s. I will begin by discussing the emic/etic distinction as a methodological question on how we can understand generalizations and specifications in studying specific cultural traditions. In the latter part of this article, I study changes in the meaning of the expression "New Woman" as shown in Japanese discourses between 1910 and 1914. | |||||
