| 内容記述 | It is usually assumed that baseball fans select their favorite team on the basis of geographical propinquity or idiosyncratic emotional factors. Occasionally, however, political conviction may be a significant element in the choice. This paper examines the political dimension of fan loyalty in some American cities with more than one team, and then turns to the issue of the Yomiuri Giants, favorite team of an overwhelming majority of Japanese. Rooting for the Giants, it is argued, became one of the few acceptable ways to express nationalist sentiments in the years following the Pacific War | |||||
