内容記述 | This survey was conducted to investigate students' opinion about general education subjects in the English department. The questionnaire, which consisted of 60 items, was answered by 293 (84.0%) of 349 students in 1993. The results were 'as follows : 1) Although there were a lot of subjects, students had a tendency to take a limited number of particular subjects. The reasons for choosing subjects were mainly "compulsory subjects" "subjects In which credits are easy to get" or "interesting subjects". 2) There were wide differences among subjects concerning the degree of interest, usefulness and necessity. 2nd-year students, however, tended to rate almost all subjects as more useful and necessary than 1st-year students. There were inconsistencies as to the degree of Interest, usefulness and necessity. Students rated some subjects as not useful, but interesting; other subjects were not interesting, but necessary; other subjects were not necessary, but useful. 3) Students rated their own level of understanding and acquisition of, and satisfaction with, subjects as "so, so (moderate)". The level of dissatisfaction however was higher than the degree of understanding and acquisition; especially, they were strongly dissatisfied with the content and method of teaching. 4) They evaluated their own attendance and attitude in class as good. There were, however, a few students who did preparation and review, and as the school year went on, the ratio of attendance and preparation/review became lower. Moreover, about 30% of students were absent from college because of non-checking of attendance or without reason. These results suggest that students wish the faculty to make teaching more Interesting and understandable, but that there is a great gap between the cognition of students and their real behavior in class. The results also suggest that the curriculum of general education should be reformed by considering multiple aspects, rather than one factor only. | |||||
