内容記述 | Academic help-seeking is an important learning strategy that students use to solve difficult problems. However students often avoid asking questions or requesting help even when they need help. Some previous studies have explored what factors affect their academic help seeking. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of social comparison orientation and academic competence on academic help-seeking. Participants were 209 (106 boys; 103 girls) students in a Japanese junior high school. The results showed the following: 1) the factor analysis showed the two factors (ability comparison and opinion comparison) of the social comparison orientation following previous studies, 2) in the group of high academic competence, students with a high opinion comparison asked more help than students with a low one, 3) ability comparison did not affect the academic help seeking in the two competence groups. These results suggested that academic help seeking may be a means for participants to know the degree of their peers' understanding. | |||||
