@article{oai:meilib.repo.nii.ac.jp:00000157, author = {徳永, 光展}, journal = {比較文化, Comparative culture,the journal of Miyazaki International College}, month = {}, note = {The reader of Soseki Natsume’s Kokoro considers the encounter between Sensei and the first-person narrator at the beach in Kamakura as occurring either in the summer of 1908 or 1910. If the time was 1908, the first-person narrator was not yet a 3rd year student in high school. We can interpret that the first-person narrator chose a similar major to Sensei at the Imperial University of Tokyo because of Sensei’s great influence upon him, for after graduation the first-person narrator identified his career with Sensei’s life. However, from the time that the first-person narrator was 19 years old until he was 23, Sensei’s time was spent experiencing the events that are exposed in his testament. When Sensei finished the 2nd year of high school, he finally rejected his aunt’s proposal of marriage between his cousin and himself. This choice led Sensei to break off relations with his hometown. The greater part of the reminiscences in Sensei’s testament is concentrated on the four years from the 3rd year of high school to the end of college life. That is to say, the testament covers the time during which Sensei moved into a war widow’s house, his encounter with her daughter, his living with his friend K and the latter’s suicide, Sensei’s college graduation and his getting married to the widow’s daughter, Shizu. Moreover, this memoranda in the narrative finishes with an act of treachery when the first-person narrator deserted his father, who was nearing his end, and got onto a train to Tokyo, suggesting the scenario in Sensei’s testament in which Sensei killed himself in total disregard of the wishes of his wife. The argument that the novel’s construction parallels the two sections of the narrator and the third part of the novel will become very persuasive if we consider the time process in memoranda and the testament simultaneously.[Article in Japanese]}, pages = {209--215}, title = {遺書を暗示する手記の時間--夏目漱石『心』論}, volume = {10}, year = {2004} }
