 note = {This paper is a preliminary step in studying the largely ignored topic of polyglots, people who have learnt many foreign languages to a high level of proficiency. The paper profiles seven polyglots to investigate approximately how many languages each one mastered and how they learnt their languages. Certain features that often appear in the language learning experiences of the polyglots are identified and discussed.
